2008 Honorees - Matt Light
The New England Patriots found an indispensable piece of their future when they landed an agile
offensive lineman from Purdue named Matthew Charles Light. Big number 72 (better known simply as
Matt) was born on June 23rd 1978 in the town of Greenville Ohio. His parents William and Marilyn
went on to raise an honor student at Greenville High who received numerous awards including second
team division II football all-star as a linebacker.
Matt went on to attend Purdue University where he began his career as a tight end. However,
Matt's destiny and eating habits helped him turn into a powerful left tackle who protected
the backside of his former teammate Drew Brees. Matt was named to the All-Big 10 first team
all-star's following his senior season.
From there he went on to become the second pick of the New England Patriots (48th overall)
and forever was a changed man. After earning a starting job on the very capable New
England offensive line, Matt and the Patriots went on to shock the world by becoming the
2001 NFL Super Bowl Champions! Matt has three Super Bowl Rings and has made two Pro
Bowl appearances.
Matt has also shown he has a bright future off the field by participating in ESPN's expert panel during
the 2002 NFL draft and showing off his acting skills in a local television commercial with Rotmans
Furniture of Worcester! He is now the television spokesperson for Casual Male nationwide.
This gentle giant has made it clear that he is here to stay and that the Patriots Quarterback can rest easy
when he is on the job. |
